The Newton Highlands Community Development Corporation is a self-supporting, nonprofit organization that initiates, facilitates and sponsors activities designed to foster a vital sense of community in Newton Highlands. The Hyde Community Center serves as a catalyst for community-building–introducing Highlands residents to each other and giving people an opportunity to work together on programs and activities serving the diverse interests of members of the Newton Highlands neighborhood. The Center collaborates with other community-building organizations in the Highlands to offer activities that are located not only at the Center itself, but elsewhere, in Newton and beyond. The Center is more than a building–it is the Heart of the Highlands.
On Friday, June 24 at 6 p.m. Hyde Community Center welcomes 4 Guys in Tuxes to the Hyde Playground for a live performance. From swing music to classic rock this 4 Guys in Tuxes does it all! Bring blankets, beach chairs and enjoy the music. The movie at dusk following the concert is Zootopia.
On Sunday, June 26th at 6 p.m. On Sunday end your weekend on a high note and come hear the delightful sounds of the Sharon Concert Band at the Hyde Center. The 50-plus-member Sharon Concert Band plays a wide variety of music from the symphonic band repertoire.
The Reminisants will be playing Hyde Bandstand Friday June 17th at 6:00 followed by the Peanuts Movie at dusk.
The Reminisants have been entertaining audiences of all ages throughout New England since 1973. The band specializes in music from the 1950’s through the 90’s, playing a collection of great music for all kinds of musical tastes and generations.
The Reminisants have performed for just about every type of event imaginable from concerts, parades and festivals, to weddings, birthdays, anniversaries and ocean cruises. For thirteen years they entertained on weeklong cruises to Bermuda on Norwegian Cruise Lines, performing on board the ship and on the island. During the Summer, the band performs at more than 50 outdoor concerts and festivals.

The Crystal Lake Conservancy and the Newton Parks and Recreation Department invite you to join us for a Sunday afternoon of activities on Crystal Lake. Participants may sign up for half hour slots between 1-4:00pm to enjoy the pleasures of canoeing/kayaking/paddle boarding. A lifeguard will be on duty and all participants will be required to wear life jackets and sign a
waiver. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult while on the water.

Summer in the Highlands starts Friday night June 10th at 6:00 with the Beatles Tribute Band Studio Two followed by the family movie Kung Fu Panda 3 at dusk.
The full Summer in the Highlands schedule will be up on wwww.hydecenter.org next week. We have another great summer at Hyde Playground with concerts, movies and outdoor theater performances.
The rain will stop for tonight’s Memorial Day Concert and we will be outside on the Hyde Bandstand. However, if the forecast is wrong we will be inside the Hyde Gym.
Memorial Day Monday Night May 30th at Hyde Community Center Bandstand 90 Lincoln Street Newton Highlands. A great event as part of Memorial Day in association with Newton Festival of the Arts and the Hyde Community Center. At 6:00 pm The Waltham American Legion Band will perform a Memorial Day Concert. Before the concert we will read off the names of the men on the Newton Highlands World War 2 Memorial. In case of rain the concert will be in the Hyde Gym
The Waltham American Legion Band was the first American Band to ever perform in the USSR, the Waltham American Legion Band has been playing in the United States and Europe since 1948. Today, the band consists of about fifty members both veterans and civilians ranging in age from teens to nineties hailing from Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Performances include concerts, parades and special events most recently appearing in Washington, DC and Canada.
The band supports itself through paid performances, fund raisers and donations. The band contributes to educational causes and local scholarships for young people interested in music. Members volunteer their time and donate their services to support all entities and efforts.
‘Newton Taiwan Day’ Saturday May 7th: Festivities kick off at 12:00 pm with a Dragon Dance starting at the Hyde Community Center, continuing down Lincoln which will be closed to traffic, and then back to the Hyde Center, 90 Lincoln Street, Newton Highlands. After the Dragon Dance the fun continues at the Hyde Playground, where there will be a dance performance, craft projects for kids, and cultural activities for adults. Newton Highlands Soup Social: a free community event. Hot gourmet soups and crusty breads will take the chill off, Saturday night February 6, from 6 pm to 7:30 p.m. at the Hyde Community Center, 90 Lincoln Street, Newton Highlands. Two community groups, the Hyde Community Center and the Newton Highlands Neighborhood Area Council, work together to plan this delectable evening of fresh soups and extras from local restaurants and grocers. Half the Hyde Gym will be full of tables, and kids can burn off some energy on the other side of the gym. While we will offer simple beverages, diners may prefer to bring their favorite beverage and bread, especially because our bread goes fast. The Highlands Halloween Party is this Sunday October 25th from 5:00 to 6:00. Children 8 and under with an adult, games and refreshments and parade around the neighborhood.
The Highlands Haunted House is also October 25th from 6:30 to 7:30. This year’s Haunted House theme is Haunted Newton Highlands Hospital.
Both the Halloween Party and Haunted House are at The Hyde Community Center 90 Lincoln Street Newton Highlands.
