The Newton Highlands Community Development Corporation is a self-supporting, nonprofit organization that initiates, facilitates and sponsors activities designed to foster a vital sense of community in Newton Highlands. The Hyde Community Center serves as a catalyst for community-building–introducing Highlands residents to each other and giving people an opportunity to work together on programs and activities serving the diverse interests of members of the Newton Highlands neighborhood. The Center collaborates with other community-building organizations in the Highlands to offer activities that are located not only at the Center itself, but elsewhere, in Newton and beyond. The Center is more than a building–it is the Heart of the Highlands.
Boston Athletic Training (BAT) is offering an 8 week
basketball clinic at the Hyde Community Center starting on January 19th for
boys and girls ages 8-16. BAT has run 3 successful clinics in the past
year and has been dedicated to training young athletes since 2012. The
coaches of the program emphasize teaching the fundamentals of the sport, as
well as the strategy of the game to ensure each athlete will improve.
Another unique part of the program is our conditioning portion of the
clinic. Each week the athletes will spend 30 minutes on improving either
speed, endurance, power or core strength.
