The Hyde Community Center is a self-sustaining nonprofit that sponsors activities designed to foster a vital sense of community in Newton Highlands.  The Hyde serves as a catalyst for community-building – giving residents an opportunity to listen, watch, play, work and celebrate together through programs and activities that serve the diverse interests of members of the Newton Highlands neighborhood and beyond. The Hyde is more than a building – it is the Heart of the Highlands.

Events, Programs & Rentals
Since its founding in 1988, the Hyde Center has sponsored free community programming including outdoor concerts, family movie nights, theater performances and adult basketball and volleyball nights. We regularly partner with city organizations like the Newton Highlands Neighborhood Area Council, Newton Cultural Development, and the Newton Senior Center for events like the Winter Soup Social and Village Day and programming such as chair yoga and Zumba for seniors.

Funding
The Hyde is not part of Newton city government and is the only community center in Newton that is not funded by the city. In fact, we are one of the only community centers in the state that receives no direct city, state or federal support. Our programming is made possible through rentals of our facilities to individuals, nonprofits and community organizations for sporting events, classes, parties, and fundraisers, and grants and donations from businesses and individuals who support our mission and believe in the importance of community.
